EXCELSIOR HOTEL GALLIA
A vibrant and unexpected presence in Piazza Duca d’Aosta, where the ancient dialogues with the contemporary, discreetly and elegantly standing alongside the crystalline modernity of the Palazzo Pirelli and presenting itself without fear to the city: this is the new Excelsior Hotel Gallia, a building that tells the story of a constantly evolving Milan.
Since 1932, the year of its inauguration, the Hotel Gallia has embodied the essence of the Belle Époque imagination, with the imposing mouldings of its façades and the halls decorated with marble of an antique character, combined with wonders of “modernity”.
Fuda Marmi S.r.l., in collaboration with Studio Marco Piva, participated in the restyling of some of the most prestigious areas, including the Katara Suite, the Spa, the Reception Hall, and the Terrazza Restaurant.
The know-how and experience of Fuda Marmi supported the work of Studio Marco Piva not only in the simple execution of the works, but also in transforming the architect’s fascinating and prestigious ideas into reality.
In the specific case of the Reception Hall, the company created a bespoke flooring, with a central element composed of a mix of combined materials: granite, limestone, and brass, managed through the optimization of cuts using CNC machines.
An equally meticulous work was carried out at the entrance of the Promenade, paying attention to every detail in the use of different materials such as granite, glass, and brass. The combination of these elements was complex to manage, but thanks to experience and technology it was possible to meet every requirement, achieving a result fully in line with expectations.
Another important challenge was the creation of the pool area and the Spa, where different finishes were used. Initially, the same stone was combined with steel to define the lines and create underwater light effects; while in the Spa area everything is characterized by customized elements, designed by architect Marco Piva, who created specific pieces.
A striking example is the Turkish bath, whose basins were carved from a single solid block: thanks to the tactile variations of the finishes, the sensation conveyed to the observer at first sight is that of soft, gentle forms.
Finally, an even more complex jewel is represented by the Master Bathroom of the Katara Suite, where craftsmanship and innovation once again merge.
Here too, masterful combinations of different materials were executed, enhancing the project.
The alternation between natural and technological materials made it possible to create bespoke pieces perceived by the eye as a single block. One example is the bathtub panel in extra-white onyx, “curved” along a single radius without altering the appearance of the material.
