SIO DESIGN

A JOURNEY THROUGH THREE COLLECTIONS IN THE WORLD OF AN ARTIST DESIGNER

“Breccia Sarda”, “Over time”, “Stone Age”, three collections that reveal through matter the soul of Sio Design. To try to capture it, that soul, one must travel through a Sardinia, both real and dreamlike, where Franco Sio’s poetics originate, all the way to Milan and Sicily, the places where inspiration becomes style.

BRECCIA SARDA More than a collection, a journey of formation between millenary myths and modern design, following in the footsteps of extraordinary artists and sculptors to whom the collection is dedicated. Sio Design and Pier Francesco Mele hand-transform veined, cloudy, pearly and snowflake marble, turning it into unique pieces made only on request. Seating that adds the fascination of sculpture to functionality. Vases and flooring with unmistakable Mediterranean forms, reinterpreted in a contemporary key and combined with the most refined culture of living.

OVER TIME FORMS AND SUGGESTIONS OF MARBLE AND IRON BY STUDIO MAMO The second collection is the story of a project born from the encounter with Studio Mamo, a team of designers and interior designers from Milan, the city where Franco Sio has lived for 35 years. “I have learned and continue to learn a great deal from this city, which I love for its ability to encourage the exchange of ideas and a sense of challenge.” The setting of Over time was a fascinating artist’s atelier, in a historic building in the Brera district of Milan. The protagonists are a large table in marble and wrought iron, coffee tables, and tall carved marble vases, samples of mosaic patterns for flooring. All creations are in limited edition.

STONE AGE SAMUELE MAZZA At the foundation of this collection, which sees Sio Design collaborating with Samuele Mazza, an artist, writer, fashion designer, and designer of multifaceted talent, there is no longer marble, but stone. No longer Sardinia, but Sicily, which has meanwhile become Franco Sio’s new land of choice. “To renew and reinvent myself, I chose the stone of Noto. A material that absorbs light: in the morning it is white and at sunset it is golden. A magic that enchants and binds you.” And here, stone is like fabric. It is found everywhere, worked in various ways, artisanal or industrial, ancient and modern. A magic made essentially of ductility. From the great portals of aristocratic palaces to the dry-stone walls that define country estates, in harmony with nature and animals. Sio Design creates portals, seating, tables, lamps, sinks, fireplaces, anything that can be asked of its art. Classic pieces. Modern pieces. Always unique pieces.
