The Alchemy of glass
Founded in 1954 by Franco Fuga and his wife Tullia Ongaro, Ongaro & Fuga proudly carries forward the centuries-old tradition of handcrafted Venetian mirrors. Yet the family’s history in the art of glassmaking dates back to the mid-19th century, when Angelo Fuga, as early as 1852, distinguished himself for his extraordinary mastery of the craft and for designs of rare elegance.
Under the leadership of Giuliano Fuga, the company expanded into national and inter-national markets. Today, his son Ludovico leads the firm with the same deep passion and a renewed, forward-looking vision.
In Murano, the beating heart of the Vene-tian glassmaking tradition, Ongaro & Fuga embodies the encounter between historic forms and contemporary trends, giving life to original and expressive creations. Every mirror, every frame, every engraved surface is born from the hands of master artisans who, through measured gestures and an-cient tools, transform a simple sheet of glass into a unique work of art.
Engraving, grinding, beveling, silvering, and assembly: centuries-old techniques that retain their ritual essence, yet serve modern, high-pro-file projects.
Timeless elegance, an obsessive attention to detail, and an impec-cable reinterpretation of classic styles: these are the defining traits of a maison that for over seventy years has preserved and renewed an extraordinarily rare savoir-faire, passed down through generations of exclusively manual craftsmanship.
Three absolute principles guide the company: total craftsmanship, bespoke customization, and uncompromising quality. Ongaro & Fuga creates decorative mirrors, scenographic walls, artistic panels, and be-spoke compositions, collaborating with architects, interior designers, and contract projects worldwide. The approach is entirely be-spoke: every piece is conceived for private residences, luxury hotels, boutiques, and public spaces seeking an iconic and un-repeatable element.
Celebrated worldwide for the exclusivity of its style and the refinement of its finishes, the collections fuse profound know-ledge of raw materials with a passion for design and an unwa-vering dedication to tradition, reinterpreted, however, through a distinctly contemporary lens.
The truest essence of Made in Italy resonates in every Ongaro & Fuga creation.
TECHNIQUES AND PRODUCTION PROCESS
Design / Drawing
Everything begins with an initial idea. Each mirror is born from freehand sketches, later transformed into full-scale tech-nical drawings (1:1) that guide the carving of the wooden base and define every decorative detail with millimetric precision.
Cutting / Grinding
The glass is cut to size and shaped into sinuous cur-ves. Each piece is then individually ground to achie-ve brilliant facets that capture the light like diamonds.
Engraving
An ancient Venetian technique: using a lathe and relying on their great experience, engravers delicately etch the glass to create 19th-century floral motifs or fully customized designs, on both flat and curved surfaces.
Silvering / Antiquing
Glass becomes mirror through slow, ancestral proces-ses. Thanks to proprietary formulas, Ongaro & Fuga ma-sters the art of antiquing and glass coloration, recreating natural patinas that evoke the beauty of time passed.
Colored and Handmade Glass
A wide collection of hand-colored and cast glass. Using special paints and techniques, Ongaro & Fuga can tint glass in infinite shades, offering limitless creative possibilities.
